Happy Halloween!

Thank you to all the students who dressed up in costume and participated in the school Halloween fashion show. It was great fun to virtually see everyone’s costume.

Here is a peek at our learning in Grade 1 this week:

Literacy: Grade 1’s continue to build their sight word recognition. This is helping children in both their reading and writing. Children are also practicing sounding out words to help them read and spell.

MathWe explored numbers from 1 – 20. Practice counting with your child both forwards and backwards at home. We also worked on building numbers using tens and ones.

Science: This week, we learned about hibernation and how animals prepare to hibernate as well as what happens to their bodies during hibernation. Ask your child about hibernation to check their recall.

We also had Mr. Huppie come visit. He guided each student to transplant tobacco seedlings into larger cups where they can grow into plants.

Socials Studies: We reviewed the responsibilities we have in Grade 1 (wear a mask, brush our teeth, pack our bags, make our beds, listen to others, be kind, etc...) and looked at our rights (right to learn, to be safe, to food, to be loved, to clothing, to our opinions and beliefs, etc...).

Art: Children used popsicle sticks and strings to build spooky spider webs.

Reminders:

  • Send the “Tuesday Folder” each Tuesday for a new sheet to practice work at home
