Nov. 2 - 6th

 Hello Families,

Here is a peek at our learning this week!

Literacy: Students are developing their reading and writing skills through literacy stations, read alouds and other literacy work.

Math: Grade 1 students are continuing to practice addition strategies and are beginning to apply these to larger numbers. We are also continuing to work with numbers 1-20. This includes reading the numbers forwards and backwards, comparing numbers and representing numbers in a variety of ways.

Science: Did you know that animals do different things in different seasons? We have become experts at animal hibernation and are now learning about migration! We watched beautiful Monarch butterflies migrate to Mexico and read about gray whales! Ask your child why some animals migrate.

Social Studies: Grade 1’s have learned the difference between a right (something we need or deserve to have a good life) and a responsibility (something we are expected to do). They demonstrated this understanding by completing a picture sort. Ask your child: is raising their hand a right or responsibility at school?

Students have also been engaged in work around Remembrance Day. We have read poems, completed artwork and discussed the meaning of Remembrance Day.

Reminders:

  • - Bell times for Ms. Magill’s class have CHANGED to better respect social distancing and cohort integrity – we begin our day at 8:08 and end at 2:53 (11:53 on Fridays) starting MONDAY, November 9th. Thank you for your understanding!
  • No school Wednesday, November 11th
  • -Read, read, read at home!
