Sept. 21-25

The Grade 1’s have had another great and busy week of learning! Here are some of the learning opportunities that our students participated in this week:

In math, we began practicing our basic math facts to 5. We continued to explore and create patterns. Students have also continued their work in representing a number in many ways by creating flipbooks for numbers to ten.

In literacy, we have been learning and practicing different ways to read a book (we can look at the pictures, read the words, go on a word/letter hunt and retell the story). Students have also worked hard on writing sentences. We know that a sentence starts with a capital letter, has finger spaces between words and ends with a period. Our next steps are to work towards adding detail to our writing and trying to sound out new words independently

As a school, we honored and celebrated Terry Fox by walking and running in his memory. Grade 1’s did an incredible job keeping their bodies moving and trying their best.

Grade 1’s also continued to add to their understanding of identity and positive self-image. We read a book called “The Best Part of Me” and each picked a part of our bodies that we like the best! Next week, we are going to do some writing about this best part of us!
