October 19th - 23rd

 Hello Families,

Here is a peek at our learning in Grade 1 this week:

Literacy: Grade 1 students are continuing their journey to become stronger readers and writers.  This week, each class began their literacy stations, or Daily 5. This work can include building words and sentences various ways, reading to self, Raz Kids and guided reading with a teacher.

Math: Grade 1’s are continuing to add to their understanding of numbers 1-20. We have been practicing saying the numbers to 20 in sequence, building them using rods and cubes and drawing what we have built.

Science: We have discussed and observed the signs of fall. We are beginning to learn more about what animals do when the seasons change. Ask your child about hibernation.

Social Studies: We are continuing to learn more about responsibilities. We know that responsibilities are things we are expected to do in the communities we belong to. Ask your child what are some responsibilities they have at school.

Art: We created some scratch art to make some cool leaves! Check them out!

Reminders:

  • Photo Retakes on Monday, October 26
  • Please return weekly folders on Tuesday, October 27
  • Students are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes on Wednesday, October 29.  Please ensure the costume is appropriate (no weapons, scary masks).
