April 12 - 16th

Hello Families,

Here is an update on our learning here in Grade 1:

Literacy:  To demonstrate our knowledge of persuasive writing, we tried to convince our teachers we know how to be healthy. We worked hard to include an opening sentence, three reasons with an explanation and a closing sentence. We will continue to practice these skills in the coming weeks.

Math: We have continued to explore measurement through measuring a variety of objects and pictures. We have compared the lengths and determined which is shorter and which is longer.

Science:  We have kicked off our new unit in Science with some animal research. We are beginning the research process as a class and small groups before trying it ourselves. We are using websites like National Geographic for Kids to find out more about an animal’s habitat, body or appearance, food or diet and any cool facts. We learned that when doing research, it is important to put information in our own words and not copy it exactly. We are using jot notes to help us. Ask me what a jot note is.

HealthWe continue to expand our knowledge of “choices that promote soundness of body and mind”, or healthy choices. We have discussed how our health includes what we eat, how much sleep we get, exercise, how we talk to ourselves, and our relationships with others.
